At Fisher Electric, we’re often called out to troubleshoot for our customers in and around Santa Cruz, CA. We’re, of course, always happy to solve issues. It would be helpful, though, if our customers kept a few things in mind. Some of these things may prevent some problems from occurring, and others can be useful to know in terms of what our service entails.
Pay Attention to Warning Signs
An isolated problem can lead to a major headache that requires a comprehensive repair. To try to keep this from happening, take note of anything unusual. If an outlet is making a popping noise or a light switch seems to be really hot, for instance, give us a call at Fisher Electric. We’ll make sure that the issue is resolved and doesn’t lead to a whole system failure or an electrical fire.
Be Aware of GFCI Breakers
Outlets within proximity to water sources have to be protected by a ground fault circuit interrupt (GFCI) system. You likely have a few of these outlets in your kitchen and bathrooms. They’re easy to recognize because they typically have red and black buttons in between their outlets.
When a GFCI is triggered, it’ll turn everything off downstream of it. Depending on how your home is wired, this could affect an appliance or light in another room. If it seems like random items don’t have power, check your GFCI devices and reset them if needed before contacting a professional.
Know Your Limits
We’re frequently called for DIY projects that haven’t turned out so well. Our electricians have extensive experience in the field and are licensed and insured. That means that you can trust our work. If you’re not sure about something, even after watching videos and reading instructions online, it’s best to let a trained electrical professional handle the job. If you don’t know what you’re doing with wiring and outlets, you could overload your system, start a fire or cause a fire risk, or get electrocuted.
Know Our Limits
At Fisher Electric, we pride ourselves on providing quality service to people in Santa Cruz, but we don’t have any superpowers. Dealing with the heavy local traffic here can affect our appointment scheduling, and sometimes, we might have underestimated the scope of a project and may have to make adjustments as we go.
In addition, we’re not the ones to take care of a dishwasher or a washing machine installation; a plumber would be better for those appliances. If you do have us come out to your place, it would help so much if you could prepare our workspace and clear any obstacles nearby.
Part of our work is to educate people. It’s a responsibility that we enjoy, and we look forward to assisting you if you ever need a hand. Contact us to schedule an appointment for electrical panel repair, lighting services, generator services, EV chargers, or any of your other electrical needs.
